Go Swim aims to encourage more people in Coventry to swim more often.

Go Swim is set to make a splash and get people who aren’t regular swimmers active and exercising in pools across the city. The initiative, a partnership between Coventry Sports Foundation, Coventry Sports Trust and Coventry City Council, is funded by Sport England and will see a range of events and sessions introduced over the next 12 months based on feedback about what stops local communities using the pools closest to them.

Activities will take place at the Foundation’s Xcel Leisure Centre in Westwood Heath, Centre AT7 on Bell Green Road and the Trust’s Coventry Sports and Leisure Centre on Fairfax Street in the city centre. More pool hours will be made available at all three sites and there will also be more fun splash sessions introduced at Centre AT7 to make sure there is something for all ages.

There will also be more Wave Raves, a family-friendly disco swimming session, which already runs in the city centre and was an idea suggested by local people.

Paul Breed, Chief Executive of Coventry Sports Foundation said “The main aim of the Go Swim programme is to engage people in Coventry and encourage them to head down more often to their local pool. There will be activities for people of all ages and a range of events where families can enjoy time in the pools together. We will be offering a range of unusual, fun and innovative classes to show people that swimming is an easy and fun way to improve your fitness and wellbeing. It will be a really action-packed year for swimming in Coventry, building toward the opening of the new pool at the Alan Higgs Centre.”

Activities on offer will be suitable for people of all ages and abilities, with the goal of promoting swimming as a fun activity that can help you to stay fit and healthy.
